EXPERIENCE
January 1995 to present East-West Forestry Associates, Inc. Inverness, CA. Coordinate field operations in national forests throughout California. Supervised field staff, project and data management. Initiated daily scenarios for individual crews and prepared data for government approval. Field operations included the installation of permanent FIA plots on national forest lands. This also required the use of a GPS (Global Positioning System) and stereo aerial photography to facilitate real location of the plots. These plots sampled data including trees, veg layers, fuels, and other forest and chaparral characteristics that are to be integrated with wildlife habitat relationships. Tree data included collecting sample cores to determine age and growth rates, diameters, and tree heights. This data was sampled on a five point variable fixed quarter acre plot, using a 20 or 40 basal area factor depending on forest density. In addition, snags and logs were sampled in a nested fixed plot platform. Also, vegetation data was collected by category (brush, herbaceous, grass layers). Plants were carefully keyed out to genus and frequently species according to abundance.
11/95 to 2/96 GUALALA REDWOODS, Gualala, California; Forestry Technician
I installed herbicide test plots, to determine the effectiveness of the method of herbicide application. Also, I collected site index data for the entire holdings and sampled cut areas to determine regeneration of indigenous conifer species in accordance with the California Forest Practice Act. Other duties include broadcast burning and pile burning in compliance with county and state ordinances and regulations.
5/90 to 8/90 & HEARST CORPORATION, Mount Shasta,California; Supervising ForestryTech.
5/91 to 1/92 & I was involved in harvest plan preparation, including inventory, plan layout, silvicultural analysis,
5/92 to 8/92 property boundary location, road design, setting equipment exclusion zones, identifying sensitive or endangered species, identifying archeological sites, and ensuring compliance with the California Forest Practice Act before and after operations. Directed and implemented revegetation projects in class I- III watercourses and cut over areas of the Hearst holdings. I also identified possible erosion hazards before and after logging operations.
