Our group formed during 1983 in New York and Connecticut, expanded to California, and works in regions throughout the world (or at least we try to). The group has changed somewhat, but still operates in all the areas of original involvement. Hence East-West.
Why Forestry?
Some people regard “forestry” as a bit of an obsolete term. Most forest management companies have by now changed their name to suggest an environmental or resources twist of some sort or another. Many environmental specialties, which were formerly a part of the general practice of forestry, have sprung up in response to growing environmental regulation and fragmentation of the profession.
We recognize the integration of the issues associated
with sustaining community forests. East-West Forestry has a
long and strong history involvement with silviculture, forest monitoring,
technology applications, representing private forest landowners and helping
them make good decisions. We strive to work with community groups,
governmental agencies, business ventures, fire protection agencies, ranchers,
other consulting companies and non-profits to assure the viability of forests
in the landscape.
Who are the Associates?
East-West Forestry Associates is a network of foresters
and environmental consultants incorportated in California as Forest
Data Corporation. Tom Gaman is the major shareholder. Associates
include all employees (listed on at the bottom of our webpage) and other
partners in particular projects.
Our Forestry Philosophy...
East-West Forestry retains its name so as to reaffirm
that there is a place for people in forestry as something timeless but
rooted in time, benevolent but sometimes catastrophic and harsh, and broad
yet with articulate attention to the details of ecological relationships.
As trees continue to be planted, and to die, forestry is a constant and
ongoing process of dealing with change in urban and wild landscapes as
people overwhelm the landscape. We are here to provite technical
expertise for people and agencies which wish to promote the restoration
of forests everywhere—we specialize in viable forest management efforts
required to redevelop forest health, to maintain quality, and to enhance
biodiversity.
